Fallout

2015

Sculpture and audio track.

Audio: 63 mins.

Stainless Steel, rod, piping, hi-hat clutches, Tactile transducers. 75cm diameter. Mounted 6ft high.

Two hand-hammered fully functioning stainless steel cymbals mounted on a wall. War related news broadcasts from the last 80 years, in several languages, are played through the cymbals via tactile transducers from inside the bell of the cymbals. The sound is tinny and old fashioned due to the effect caused by the sound waves travelling along the surface of the steel.  The work is about quantifying the human timeline from a futuristic dystopian perspective.  It recalls an era in which analogue physical sound equipment moved to digital with non moving parts and sound became quantifiable in an entirely new sense.
