Primate Brain Size is Determined by Social Group Size

Installation with audio
Audio: 6 minutes, looped
Flight cases, speakers, wires, audio interface, amp, laptop, netting.

Installed in a dark performance room with spotlights illuminating them, five flight cases lay strewn out on the floor. A mass of electrical wires is wrapped around each case and links each case to the next, forming a circuit.
A rhythmic banging comes from each case as a female voice from the largest case lists aspects of three musical genres, from superficial characteristics to styles of playing. By the time she reaches the styles of playing, the other cases get louder and drown her out with feedback and harsh noise.
Interested in social sciences, the work is about the nature of social groups and subcultures, particularly localised to Brighton, UK where this took place.
